'I Can' Camp
The Kris' Camp I Can Camp began in 2004 in Idyllwild, California. It is a sleepover camp in which 6-10 kids stay in cabins with two counselors per cabin and all participate in planning and helping with meals, schedules, etc. Activities are focused on socialization and recreation and are not therapy-focused, although therapeutic aspects exist as the program is led by a team of 3-4 therapists and/or counselors with experience with children with special needs. This is a more traditional camp - parents/siblings do not participate - and requires that the child be somewhat independent (with or without assistance) with daily living skills, and that they be ready for a camp away from home. The I Can Camp aims to provide the opportunity for a successful sleepover camp experience for kids with autism and/or other special needs.
